INTRODUCTION
This website has been designed to make available the research I have been doing about the above named families, and is concentrated mainly on their whereabouts within Devon itself, though there are records of them from the IGI (international Genealogical index) living in London, Wiltshire, and Cornwall way back in the 17th Century. Branches of the family also travelled abroad (This may have been influenced by the strong maritime links!) and the name can be found today in South Africa, Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand and South America.
There may well be mistakes and omissions, and for these I apologise. Let me know and I will do my best to correct them. This is also an ongoing project and will be updated regularly. When checking the trees, please check the source references. They will often give Will excerpts, and full census transcriptions – so should prove useful. I would gratefully value any contributions to these pages.
Many, many thanks also to the many researchers who have been kind enough to contribute to these pages. Hopefully it will go some way to helping us all to put some more of the pieces together in our search for our Fogwell/Vogwell ancestors.

The IGI (International Genealogical Index produced by the LDS church, searches are free from the following link) (click here)
A useful way to search is to go direct to the IGI on the resources list, and to type in a surname and Batch Number, which will then give all the people in the parish with that surname. (Remember to use different spelling variants although the system does use ‘sounds like’ categories)
New info on IGI as of 2002 |
Most up to date research of my own particular line, indicates that it ties into Wolborough and Newton Abbot, through the birth of John Fogwell in 1790 son of John Fogwell and Johanna Shepcote.
